Although this concept may appear to belong to science fiction, INFINITY MACHINE & ENGINEERING has turned the responsive machine of the future into reality with Coral, described as the tissue industry’s first locally hosted, AI-powered machine intelligence.
Comprising a series of dedicated components that provide extensive live and historical machine data, Coral allows users to interact with an entire Infinity packaging line from a central location. Current operating efficiency can be reviewed, opportunities for production improvement identified and faults diagnosed more rapidly.
Coral AI is trained using each machine’s specific manuals, mechanical drawings, production data and other technical documentation, creating a comprehensive machine database supported by intuitive chatbot functionality. Troubleshooting becomes more direct, as Coral can diagnose production disruptions and recommend proven solutions in real time.
When connected to live-feed cameras, Coral can also review and retrieve production videos to assess faults more accurately and help restore the line to its target OEE more quickly.

Equipped with countless job aids and other internal educational resources, Coral can also operate as a dedicated training tool, providing employees with immediate access to relevant operating information.
As the system is tailored to the individual machine, it can offer assistance during changeovers, display detailed machine diagrams and provide operating advice derived from the experience of Infinity service technicians, all through clear and conversational dialogue.
In addition to its chatbot functions, Coral features an intuitive dashboard that displays comprehensive machine metrics in a clear and accessible format. Designed for mill managers, machine operators and technical personnel, the dashboard can be customised to provide either a simplified overview of total line performance or a detailed analysis of each machine’s operation by month, week or day.
Coral also provides a live overview of the status of the complete Infinity machine line. When equipment is operating within the desired OEE range, its metrics are displayed in a green tile. If performance drops below the target OEE, the tile changes to yellow, while a fault that interrupts production causes it to turn red. These immediate visual indicators allow operators to respond rapidly to unplanned downtime and preserve production efficiency.

Because Coral stores large volumes of production data and mechanical information specific to the customer’s equipment, the system requires a carefully designed security infrastructure to ensure that the data remains under the customer’s control.
Infinity engineers therefore developed Coral to operate on a local network through dedicated on-site physical hardware, independently of cloud-based networks.
The three-terabyte computer used for Coral’s local data storage is housed inside a robust locker compartment protected by a lock and key, ensuring that access is limited to authorised employees.
Coral can be accessed securely and conveniently through local Wi-Fi routers installed inside Infinity machine cabinets. Operators can therefore use the system across the facility through localised networks, without permitting access from outside the plant.
By keeping production data away from cloud networks and protecting both its physical storage and its methods of access, Coral ensures that the information remains secure and under the ownership of the customer.
With Coral AI, tissue manufacturers can simplify the route towards optimum OEE, provide employees with an advanced training resource and maintain control over their own production data.
