These valves dilute each pulp infeed into the manifold within a range of +/- 5%, increasing or decreasing its concentration.

This improves the profile, potentially achieving a 50% reduction in 2 sigma, provided that variations in the MD direction do not exceed 4%. This also provides a more uniform distribution of fibers over the fabric and improves MD variations by mitigating potential pulsations.

To summarize, how Dilution Control works can be simplified by saying that each infeed into the manifold has its corresponding water supply valve, the opening of which is automatically controlled by the diluMATIC profile management program. It is also possible to manually control them from the control panel, or they can even be mechanically manipulated.

For proper system operation, it is very important to use water with adequate purification levels, water with the lowest fiber concentration, and a pressure control loop in the collector, whose values will be preset based on production (this loop is included in the diluMATIC system). Krofta water can be used between 50 and 100 ppm.

Basis Weight CD profile control systems using a radial “octopus” distributor are adaptable to most head boxes on the market. Control of each profile zone (approximately every 75 mm) is achieved through a Valve Bus + Intelligent Actuators that provide more or less water to change the concentration at each point, achieving very precise regulation that allows full control of variations in the transverse or CD direction.

Thanks to the installation of the radial distributor, in addition to reducing CD deviations, the system provides a laminar flow of the stock in the head box, which helps improve formation. In addition, the system acts as a pulsation attenuator thanks to the perforated plate installed inside.

All these advantages result in a much more stable total weight/dry weight profile, which leads to an inherent improvement in the moisture profile, thus helping to increase machine speed and consequently increasing production.

In head boxes or in processes where the installation of a Radial Distributor is not possible, the basis weight CD profile is controlled by micromotors installed in the lip of the head box, allowing adjustment of each slice or work zone.

In this case, with a motorized lip, control consists of manipulating its opening at the required points, acting on the corresponding motors, both for opening and closing. This control is severely limited by the fact that it cannot overcome certain differences between adjacent points, differences recommended by the lip manufacturer.

This control relies on lip deformation, a negative phenomenon as it often produces more or less intense currents toward adjacent points, which hinders the control’s operation. Control is performed using micromotors with high-precision LVDT sensors with mechanical adjustment ranges of 0-10 mm.

This method, called Dilution Control, is based on the principle of using water dosing valves.
