Today, however, the questions raised by the market are different and far more concrete.

Can production be managed with greater flexibility? How should manufacturers respond to the growing number of SKUs, frequent format changes, and increasingly variable materials? And how can consumption, footprint and total cost of ownership, TCO, be reduced?

According to PLUSLINE, the answer lies in designing more intelligent systems that exploit the quality of interaction between machines to improve overall efficiency. Packaging, bundling, layer formation and palletizing are therefore approached as parts of a single process, in which each machine is developed in relation to those positioned upstream and downstream.

The result is an integrated vision based on continuous product flow and shared information. At Plusline, this approach is expressed through the phrase: “Make it Simple.”

“Today, building excellent machines is no longer enough. The task is to design systems that help customers work better, with greater continuity and flexibility and with less complexity. This is the approach that guides every decision,” says Christian Zagnoni, CTO of Plusline, who works directly with manufacturers around the world daily.

The integrated Overlayer-Tower+ line

A concrete example of this philosophy is the integrated Overlayer-Tower+ line. Unlike a traditional layout, the solution combines packaging, layer formation and palletizing within a single logical and structural flow. The system manages the movement of packs directly towards the palletizing stage under centralized software control and through a single human-machine interface, HMI.

This configuration reduces the number of physical interfaces, drastically limits critical product-transfer stages, and enables an extremely compact footprint, without compromising productivity.

In a rapidly evolving market, genuine innovation for Plusline means eliminating unnecessary complexity. Speed will continue to remain an important factor, but it will no longer be sufficient on its own. Real performance will increasingly depend on the ability to maintain quality, reliability and efficiency at consistent levels, shift after shift, through a simpler and more coordinated approach.

The same philosophy also guides the relationship with customers. Each project begins with careful listening and develops through continuous dialogue, allowing the final solution to be shaped around actual production requirements.

Pluspack: next-generation high-speed fully automatic wrapping machine for toilet paper and kitchen towel rolls.

Three strategic sites

Plusline continues to expand and currently operates through three strategic locations: Bologna, which serves as the engineering and management centre; Mugnano, near Lucca, dedicated to production and testing; and Green Bay, the company’s North American hub. The company’s objective is to transform tissue packaging into a more intuitive, efficient, and sustainable system.

“This is the vision that will be presented at MIAC 2026: not a group of machines, but a different way of thinking about packaging,” says Carlo Berti, Sales Director EMEA. “The future of packaging will belong to systems designed to work intelligently together”.

For many years, innovation in packaging was measured primarily through increasingly ambitious speed claims.
