CHT Group is presented as a partner for sustainable products and solutions to optimally support paper producers in achieving their sustainability goals. These sustainability goals may include energy and resource savings, a high recycling rate, the reduction of CO₂ emissions and the use of all-natural products to support the circular economy.
Water treatment technology
Clean water circuits are essential for fast and reliable paper production. Microbiological contamination can lead to significant downtimes due to frequent cleaning intervals. It is therefore inevitable to implement a cost-effective water treatment program. Common biocides usually contain oxidizing agents, isothiazolinones or DBNPA. While these products are well established, they are hazardous when not applied properly.
Moreover, European legislation increasingly limits the use of biocidal products. With BIOTIKOS, a completely new concept of water treatment has been developed: a probiotic approach. This sustainable technology redefines conventional water treatment. BIOTIKOS contains highly concentrated, naturally occurring, non-pathogenic bacteria. When administered in sufficient amounts, they displace undesired slime-forming and odorous species.
By replacing conventional biocides with this probiotic approach, clean water circuits are obtained without hazardous chemicals. A presentation on this topic will be given by Andrea Cerasaro together with the Italian paper mill Cartiera del Vignaletto during the conference sessions at MIAC 2025.
BIOLAY
The latest generation of BIOLAY meets the highest regulatory requirements such as the Single Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) EU 2019/904 and the new European Packaging Regulation EU 2025/40. BIOLAY excels in grease and oil barriers for fast food packaging. Besides its SUPD compliance, this innovative product is completely free from synthetically produced compounds, biodegradable and free from fluorocarbons.
The newly developed BIOLAY barrier products can be adapted precisely to the necessary requirements with new plant-based CHT-COAT WAX emulsions. The paraffin-free, biodegradable products optimally complement the performance of the BIOLAY range.
Energy-saving enzyme technology
In times of high energy prices, intelligent enzyme technologies QUIMIZIME and ZIAX help significantly reduce energy refining, chemicals, fibers, and water usage. These powerful biocatalysts also ensure gentle fiber fibrillation, allowing higher strengths to be achieved.
Over the course of 10 years, multiple enzyme generations have been developed with tailor-made properties for the respective paper and pulp grades.
CHT enzymes can be used for the treatment of various fiber raw materials and improve the fibrillation at the lowest water retention without mechanically straining the fiber. Depending on the application, they provide several advantages, e.g., faster drainage, a reduction of mechanical refining energy and improved mechanical properties of the paper/board. CHT enzymes can be applied in packaging and tissue mills treating both virgin and recycled fibers.
Sticky control program
The new TUXOL PSR-70 DE felt and screen treatment agent, supported by CHT-FIX 100T, ensures even more efficient production by effectively avoiding impurity deposits, so-called stickies.
By using these products, better paper quality is achieved thanks to the prevention of holes and stains. A maximum fiber yield as well as higher felt and wire lifetimes are also obtained. With this felt and screen treatment agent, the number of web breaks can be reduced and, since cleaning is less frequently required, machine downtime is minimized.
In addition, the improved drainage helps reduce water, steam and energy consumption. The newly developed solutions support the transition from the fossil age to a sustainable circular economy.
