Svecom-P.E. and RFID sensor integration

The company has taken a significant step by integrating RFID technology into its expanding shafts and initiating a major digitization process, offering an advanced solution to facilitate plant-wide prevention in manufacturing facilities. This approach improves safety, reliability and automation through scheduled maintenance in winding and unwinding processes.

In the tissue, nonwoven, and paper industries, different types of shafts are often handled, including carbon fibre, steel and aluminum, with various lengths and diameters.

In particular, in rewinding applications, shafts are prone to accidental damage, such as bending or breaking, due to machine configurations being set without considering the various parameters that different types of expanding shafts must work with type of material, tension, weight, and, more broadly, any other parameters that are useful to monitor.

This issue can lead to downtime, material waste and high maintenance costs.

With the integration of RFID sensors, each shaft is uniquely identified by the system, creating a database and allowing the PLC to automatically configure machine settings.

If non-compliant parameters are entered, the system issues a warning, preventing errors and reducing the risk of shaft damage.

Passive mini-sensors.

This automation not only increases productivity but also ensures consistency and safety in operations by significantly assisting and facilitating the processes, ultimately improving overall working conditions.

A particular type of expanding shaft in which the application of RFID technology is especially relevant is that of large-dimension shafts, which are crucial to the operational success of paper machines. Through Svecom sensors, it is possible to track the expanding shafts in use and the number of cycles to perform proper maintenance and optimize production.

The integration of RFID technology into Svecom-P.E.’s expanding shafts offers numerous advantages:

  • Automatic machine configuration: the PLC automatically adjusts machine parameters based on shaft identification, eliminating manual configuration errors.
  • Advanced equipment protection: prevents damage to expandable shafts, machinery components, and pads/bearings by ensuring correct configuration before use.
  • Increased productivity: reduces downtime and improves overall production efficiency.

Innovation and efficiency are at the heart of Svecom-P.E.’s approach to industrial automation. By integrating RFID sensors into its expanding shafts, Svecom-P.E. reaffirms its commitment to innovation and excellence in industrial automation.
