Flexibility and efficiency reshape tissue packaging

Customers today are seeking greater efficiency, enhanced flexibility, and lower operating costs. Amotek is designed to meet these challenges and deliver measurable results.

Smart packaging solution for handling tissue products.

The global tissue industry, particularly for products such as toilet paper and kitchen rolls, is often perceived as a mature and stable market. While this is true in terms of demand, the machinery segment, especially packaging, is undergoing significant transformation.

Historically, tissue manufacturers focused strongly on production capacity: faster converting lines, higher output and lower unit costs. This paradigm has now shifted. Production has become standardized, and most manufacturers can achieve high output levels. Today, the real bottleneck lies at the end of the line: packaging. Success is therefore determined by the true differentiators: flexibility, cost efficiency and the ability to adapt to rapidly evolving customer requirements.

In this context, Amotek occupies a strategic position by offering specialized and highly adaptable packaging solutions that respond directly to the new needs of tissue converters.

One of the strongest arguments in today’s market is the reduction of cost per pack. Margins in the tissue industry are under pressure due to rising costs and strong competition. Even a small saving can have a significant cumulative impact over millions of units. Amotek machines optimize material use and reduce waste, directly increasing profitability. The final packs are very tight, which means less film consumption and less waste.

A relevant AMOTEK machine in this area is the WWL automatic labelling machine for multipacks of flow-wrapped wet wipes. The machine produces smart packs secured with an adhesive label, allowing significant savings in packaging film. The label can be printed, neutral or transparent, while a pre-cut option can facilitate opening.

The unit can also be connected to any flow-pack machine. The labelling unit can also be integrated into the Amotek PB166WWM automatic bagger, a model that has been established on the market for decades. The resulting PB166WWM-L model is a hybrid solution capable of stacking and multipacking pre-packed wet wipes either in pre-made PE bags or with an adhesive label.

The basic PB166WWM model, originally designed for multipacks of wet wipes in pre-made bags, also offers the advantage of handling multilayer configurations.

Retailers and private-label brands constantly introduce new formats. Flexible systems allow rapid changes while limiting downtime. The new generation of Amotek PB tissue machines can manage a wide range of bag configurations and operate in both single- and double-layer arrangements. Format changeovers are quick and straightforward, using captive screws, while switching between single- and double-lane operation requires no tools.

A key advantage of Amotek machinery is its modularity. The equipment can be integrated into existing converting lines with lower investment, helping to improve return on investment. A relevant example is Amotek’s new bundler series, which can be easily connected to an Amotek bagger or to baggers supplied by other manufacturers.

Different pack formations in rows and combined layers are possible, ensuring the correct quantity of packs in each bundle.

Amotek also proposes compact and complete end-of-line solutions for overwrapping different types of soft disposable products. During the bundling process, the machine’s advanced functions allow it to manage a broad range of pack configurations, in both vertical and horizontal orientations.

It produces stable, compact secondary packaging with an excellent appearance. Both tissue and nonwoven products in primary packaging can be processed. Fast format-part changeovers, simple operation and high overall equipment effectiveness, OEE, are ensured.

Reducing material use is not only environmentally responsible, but also economically advantageous. Amotek’s packaging innovations support both sustainability targets and financial performance. The company contributes through a responsible production policy based on green industrial investments, improvements in the energy performance of its machines and the development of new sealing methods suitable for environmentally friendly packaging materials.

Amotek baggers can also be converted to process more sustainable packaging. This allows a wide range of plastic materials to be replaced with alternatives such as recycled plastics, paper and bio-based materials, without requiring significant modifications to existing equipment.
