Toscotec completes cogeneration plant upgrade at Cartiera del Vignaletto

The Cartiera del Vignaletto tissue mill in Zevio, near Verona, where Toscotec completed the cogeneration plant and air system upgrade.

The initial objective of the rebuild was to increase the energy efficiency of the mill’s operations through the installation of innovative equipment. The production site includes two paper machines with a combined capacity of approximately 46,000 t/y, producing high-quality tissue products including facial tissue, toilet paper, tissues, and kitchen towels.

Operating at speeds ranging from 1,200 to 1,700 m/min, the machines manufacture tissue with basis weights from 15 to 40 g/m².

The mill is equipped with a 5.5 MW gas turbine capable of supplying electrical power to both machines. Toscotec’s scope of supply covered the complete rebuild of the thermal power system. The upgrade enables full recovery of the gas turbine exhaust gases to supply heat to the air systems of both hoods and to generate both high- and low-pressure steam for PM4 and PM5.

Through this project, the entire thermal and air system was redesigned and optimized to achieve maximum energy efficiency and meet the project performance guarantees. “With this project, Toscotec proves its value as a partner dedicated to tailored, energy-saving solutions that drive long-term efficiency and sustainability,” says Stefano Pecchia, Energy Technology Director at Toscotec.

“Completing this project required strong cooperation between Toscotec and our technical team at Cartiera del Vignaletto, supported by the long-term vision of our ownership. The result gives our mill a more efficient, reliable, and sustainable energy platform for its future development,” says Giovanni Pomari, Plant Director at Cartiera del Vignaletto.

With the successful completion of the project, TOSCOTEC reinforces its role as a strategic partner in delivering customized, energy-efficient solutions that support customers’ long-term operational and environmental objectives.
